This
is a unique program, designed for non competitive players who want a fun
week of interesting activities, life skills lessons all with a hockey
component, affording parents some ‘time off’ just as summer vacation
ends.

Sending
the kids off to camp is not possible for everyone, so we set out to create
something unique. An AFFORDABLE opportunity for parents to send their kids
off to ‘camp‘, AND include a week of fun hockey skills and
preparation. Just before they go back to school and the regular season
begins for hockey
We
know not all hockey players are competitive, many just play for the love
of the game and to have fun. We strongly support this and understand how
to adjust our teaching styles to encourage and motivate. Instruction will
be focused on FUN skill drills, games and activities on the ice. Students
will enjoy themselves and learn while having FUN. We will not be running
standard ‘hard structured drills’ where coaches yell and demand
perfection. This program is all about learning to play for the simple
enjoyment of the game, experiencing some new skills and honing those
already in place, while participating in positive, motivating and relaxed
setting.
In
addition to the hockey component our students will receive life skills
lessons and participate in interesting activities not usually associated
with a hockey school, such as; touring an ice cream factory, learning the
value of money (J.A.
Economics program), being up close to famous stock car & driver,
working with a falcon trainer, touring the JLC and some other thought
provoking and fascinating activities.

Instructors:
All
of our camp instructors are professional PTK and Puckstoppers instructors
with many years of coaching and instructional experience. While our fully
qualified instructors are all competitive coaches they also understand how
tone down their teaching and how to make hockey development fun and
enjoyable while still teaching skills and game strategy.

Philosophy:
The
primary goal of the Hockey & Fun Day Camp is to provide non
competitive hockey players from 7 to 15 with the opportunity to learn
hockey skills in a non abrasive environment, while providing educational
and enjoyable alternative activities and life lessons to round out the
day.
Our
secondary goal is to provide parents with an affordable, safe and
educational alternative to day care with hockey and routing building
components, just when you need them.
Junior
Acheivement Economics for Success Program (Value of Money)
This
workshop designed to help students understand the importance of an
education and the personal and economic costs of dropping out of school.
Students are either making course decisions that will affect their
post-secondary education, or perhaps thinking that a high school diploma
will allow them the career path of their choice.Students are encouraged to
see education as an opportunity to broaden their life choices. They
explore the relationships of the following four concepts:
Success
- Develops a relationship between education and the achievement of
personal goals
Independence
- Identifies the financial costs of independence
Opportunity
- Identifies Employability skills and their value for future job
opportunities
Futures
- Identifies career mentors and highlights possible career opportunities,
planning resources and other key concepts in the program
Students
will define success in personal terms, begin to understand the costs of
living on their own, and explore the types of careers that match their
goals and lifestyle expectations.
Like
other Junior Achievement programs, Economics for Success is
curriculum-linked, student centered and skills focused. It will be
delivered in 5 parts during the Fun Hockey & Day Camp week by trained
and inspiring volunteers.
